Bmw to Deliver Hydrogen 7

Bmw to Deliver Hydrogen 7

The current trend in the auto industry is the development and production of environment friendly vehicles. This trend is the result of increasing prices of petroleum fuel and the increasing awareness concerning global warming. Different alternative technologies are already being use by car manufacturers to reduce the amount of fossil fuel consumed by vehicles thus reducing greenhouse gas emission which contributes heavily to global warming.

In the United States, hybrid technology is favored and it is evident in the fact that even celebrities are known to drive gas-electric hybrid cars. While hybrid vehicles reduce the amount of fossil fuel burned, it is not the most promising clean vehicle technology. That distinction belongs to fuel-cell technology which uses hydrogen as fuel and eliminates the use of petroleum fuel and greenhouse gas emission. BMW is aware of this fact that is why they have developed a car based on the 7 series but it can run on both gasoline and hydrogen fuel.

The Hydrogen 7 as the vehicle is called will make its appearance next week on the roads of the United Kingdom. The vehicle is the first hydrogen-powered luxury sedan in the world. Initially, BMW will deliver eight of these cars in the UK as part of their Clean Energy program. The said environment-friendly initiative involves production of 100 units of the Hydrogen 7. According to Jim O’Donnell, BMW UK’s Managing Director: “The arrival of our Hydrogen 7 cars could not have come at a better time. Politicians, business leaders, the media and consumers are engaged in healthy debate on the future of energy supply and use. Meanwhile, the automotive industry is committed to cleaner motoring, with a host of possible solutions available today and being developed for the mid- and long-term. BMW is at the core of the future of motoring with tremendous developments in petrol and diesel engines, hybrid powertrains and hydrogen technologies.”

O’Donnell added that: “Our EfficientDynamics programme has introduced energy-saving technologies that break through the 60 miles per gallon and one hundred and twenty grams per kilometer CO2 barriers, our new diesels are cleaner and greener than many of today’s hybrids, yet power and performance in all of our cars has improved. Clean, green motoring can also be engaging and dynamic, and the new BMW Hydrogen 7 models epitomize that philosophy.” The vehicles that will be delivered by BMW will be used on high profile events to promote the technology.

While fuel-cell is the most environment friendly alternative fuel technology, its use is hampered by different problems. One of these is the cost of production. Since fuel-cell technology uses advanced components, the cost of these materials makes hydrogen-fueled vehicles impractical for most car buyers. Ongoing research and development though is expected to reduce the production cost of these green cars.

Another problem faced by the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles is the availability of refilling stations offering hydrogen fuel. Uwe Ellinghaus has this to say about that issue: “The age-old chicken-and-egg debate has now been resolved. BMW can produce hydrogen-powered cars on the production line and the time is right to engage with business leaders and politicians in order to progress the development of a hydrogen highway – the fuelling and infrastructure requirements that make hydrogen a viable fuel for the consumer. We hope that experiencing these cars in normal driving situations will encourage people to join the debate. Without doubt, it will take many years for a suitable infrastructure to develop that makes hydrogen power an easy option for the consumer, but all indications are hydrogen is the only genuine long-term sustainable power source for cars. Public hydrogen filling stations have been developed in Germany and California, and the presence of BMW Hydrogen 7 cars in the UK will undoubtedly bring the future closer for British drivers.”

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is equipped with an internal combustion engine engineered to run on both gasoline and hydrogen fuel. Switching between gasoline and hydrogen is as easy as pushing a button. When one decides to change from gasoline to hydrogen, the power output and performance is not affected making the car one of the most convenient flex-fuel vehicles. To enable the car to run on both fuel, BMW equipped the Hydrogen with two fuel tanks. The use of these two fuels gives the Hydrogen a cruising range of more than 425 miles. With the hydrogen fuel, the car is expected to run for 125 miles while for the gasoline, it can get 300 miles on a full tank.

In terms of performance, the Hydrogen 7 is true to its lineage as a BMW. It also uses the same BMW components for its chassis and other systems like BMW brake calipers, shock absorbers, and the steering system assembly.

The Science Behind Hydrogen Hybrid Cars – The Equations of Electrolysis

The Science Behind Hydrogen Hybrid Cars – The Equations of Electrolysis

In The Science Behind Hydrogen Hybrid Cars – The Electrolysis of Water we discussed the basic composition of a hydrogen fuel cell and how it works, now let’s look at the actual scientific equations of the process. (This gets a little advanced so pull out your old chem. books!)

At the negatively charged cathode (electrode plate) in the water of your hydrogen cell car, a reduction reaction happens. The electrons (e−) from the cathode cross over to hydrogen cations (positively charged ion that’s attracted to a negative electrode in an electrolyte) that then form the hydrogen gas, (half the reaction balanced with acid):

Cathode (reduction): 2H+(aq) + 2e− → H2(g)

On the positively charged anode (electrode plate) in the water of your hydrogen cell car, an oxidation reaction happens. This produces oxygen gas and gives electrons to the cathode to complete the circuit:

Anode (oxidation): 2H2O(l)→O2(g) (+) 4H+(aq) (+) 4e−

You can balance these half reactions in your hydrogen cell car with a base like those listed below. You don’t have to balance all of these half reactions with a base or acid although many like the improvement of the reduction or oxidation of the water. For half reactions, they both must balance with either base or acid:

Cathode (reduction): 2H2O(l) (+) 2e− → H2(g) (+) 2OH−(aq)
Anode (oxidation): 4OH−(aq) → O2(g) (+) 2H2O(l) + 4e−

You can combine either of these half reactions to get the same total breakdown of water into hydrogen and oxygen:

Overall reaction: 2H2O(l) → 2H2(g) (+) O2(g)

As stated before you’ll get twice the number of hydrogen molecules, as you will oxygen molecules. If everything is equal like the pressure and temperature for both gasses, the hydrogen produced will have twice the volume of the oxygen. Therefore, the number of electrons that push through the water will be double the number of hydrogen molecules generated and four times as many as the number of oxygen molecules

If we look at the thermodynamics of the electrolysis in you hydrogen cell car, we see that normal temperatures and pressures don’t produce the best results. Based on the “Nernst Equation” the normal potential for the fuel cell is:

-1.23 V at 25°C at pH 7 (H+ = 1.0×10-7 M) or -1.23 V at 25°C at pH 0 (H+ = 1.0 M)

The negative voltage shows that the energy for the electrolysis of water is more than zero. This is shown using the G=-nFE equation from the kinetics of chemicals, where “n” equals the moles of electrons and “F” equals the Faraday constant. This reaction won’t happen without the added energy, usually from an outside power source.

Please stay with us for The Science Behind Hydrogen Hybrid Cars – Electrolytes and Electrolysis when we’ll talk more about how the electrolytes affect the process in your hydrogen cell car.

How to Build a Hydrogen Gas Generator – HHO Gas Conversion Kits

How to Build a Hydrogen Gas Generator – HHO Gas Conversion Kits

If building a hydrogen gas generator to run your car on water sounds complicated, think again. You may not have heard about this amazing yet simple technology that lets you convert your car into a water burning hybrid for under 0, but it’s not because it is difficult to do…no, there are darker forces at work here.

To build a hydrogen generator one must simply acquire one of the many DIY guides available on the Internet that base their designs around the universal idea of electrolysis.

There is a ton of free energy in water but the trick is getting to it. You most likely have heard of hydrogen fuel cell technology and how complicated , expensive and dangerous this technology is. But we are not talking about pure hydrogen here.

If you were to take a glass of water and apply a voltage to it through a set of electrodes, one positive and one negative, you could theoretically pull the water molecule apart into hydrogen and oxygen.

We can do this because the bond between hydrogen and oxygen is fairly weak and the opposite charges of each electrode act to pull on the hydrogen atoms and oxygen atoms which themselves are oppositely charged which is why they are attracted to one another in the first place.

Now hydrogen atoms are different. Once they bond to another hydrogen atom it is mighty difficult to pull them apart again. But, we don’t have to do this to get a burnable fuel.

Through electrolysis, we can break the water molecule down into what is known as HHO, or Brown’s gas which is actually two bonded hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom that actually burns three times more readily than standard gasoline because it is a gas and not a liquid that has to be atomized into droplets to combust.

Basically the droplets of HHO are much smaller and therefore combust more readily increasing efficiency when added to the fuel air mixture you already inject into the engine.

Of course the oil company does not want you to know about this and in their defense, why would they? I mean if you can build your own hydrogen generator for under 0, install it yourself and cut your gas bills in half, don’t you agree they will do whatever is necessary to quiet this technology?

And the taxes that are generated on gasoline would certainly make you think that those that collect on these taxes would do whatever is necessary to bury it as well.

The word is out though. People are unable to fill their cars with gas because of the sky-rocketing cost of oil, so they have looked for alternatives.

Of course now that the secret of DIY hydrogen generators is out, all they can do is try and discredit the technology. However, this idea has been around for nearly a century and working hydrogen generators have been around since the seventies.

Thousands of people all over the world are converting their cars to run on water and improving their gas mileage by 25-75%!

Hydrogen Vehicles – Are they Feasible?

Hydrogen Vehicles – Are they Feasible?

The importance of developing new methods of powering a vehicle is becoming more and more of a focus for manufacturers. Although the research and development of new methods comes at a price, the damage being done to the environment by the established methods is reaching such a level that it has now become necessary for governments to pass legislation penalizing those who continue to produce damaging vehicles. Faced with the choice between developing less sustainable methods and being fined, and putting the money in now to ensure a more stable future, it makes sense to move to newer, cleaner methods of vehicle production.

The hydrogen fuel cell is a method that has come under some scrutiny in recent times. With some debate over the feasibility of hybrid and electric cars at the present time, not least in terms of refueling while there are so few enabled service stations, hydrogen is seen by some as the savior of the motor car. Noted “petrol head” Jay Leno has said that the hydrogen car may well even be the savior of the old cars we know and love – by using the cleaner, more efficient models such as the Honda Clarity for our day-to-day journeys, we will still be able to enjoy the likes of the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche Carrera for “weekend driving”. However, there is a growing body of criticism for the hydrogen-powered car, with some sources arguing that the technology is currently imperfect, and perfection so far off that it could be up to forty years before we can expect a feasible large-scale solution.

Some argue that hydrogen powered vehicles will not have a meaningful impact on gasoline use nor on the environment for so long that any money spent on the development of such vehicles will simply divert resources away from more immediate solutions. The government has gone to the lengths of cutting off funding for the development of hydrogen fuel cells, and as of the present time the number of public vehicles powered in this way in the United States is in the region of two hundred – most of those being in California, where the support for the technology, both emotionally and logistically, is at its highest.

While none of this means that companies should cease research into the production of hydrogen-powered vehicles, there is a growing belief that other methods of powering cars, such as biodiesel, may well be a better bet for the future. The problem with the hydrogen dream is that, as yet, it simply is not a technology which is ready for mass production, and that alternative, equally clean and even cleaner methods are further ahead in their development. While, some years down the line, hydrogen fuel cells may well be a viable answer to the many problems we face, companies will need to pick a point to focus on and follow it through if we are to have cleaner motoring any time soon. As things stand, Honda is pressing ahead with the Clarity FCX, and if there are positive outcomes on that front, things are still prone to change.

Hydrogen Hybrid Systems Vs The Smog Monster 818 882 1189

Hydrogen Hybrid Systems Vs The Smog Monster 818 882 1189

Green Energy Tech Vs The Smog Monster

Times have changed and it is sometimes difficult to keep up.Once upon a time one went and bought a car and life was simple but that led us to skyrocketing gas prices and toxic emissions and other troubles. Once the vehicle has been converted to run on water, you can be certain that you are benefiting the environment while you are paying a fraction of your previous fuel bills. Hydrogen in your gas mixture will ultimately convert your emissions to steam and that is only beneficial to the environment.
There are testimonials that the combustion system will also remove pollution from the air intake. It doesn’t get much greener than that. So what is water electrolysis and how does it actually work? Well, water electrolysis is simply the breaking down of water into its basic hydrogen and oxygen atoms by passing an electrical current through it. It really is as straightforward as that, although different methods have different efficiency levels. Normal water from the tap is all that’s needed.

In the past, hydrogen systems did not work because the energy required was more than the energy produced and there was no way around that. Hydrogen fuel powered vehicles are by their nature safer than using gasoline.
What this does is make bite sized particles out of the particles that the engine burns as fuel. So the system is able to use a lot more of it.
By doing this you can reasonably expect to improve your fuel mileage by 30% or significantly more. It also helps make emissions substantially cleaner.

Top 3 Benefits of Homemade Hydrogen Fuel Technology

Top 3 Benefits of Homemade Hydrogen Fuel Technology

Water is one of the most abundant resources on the face of the earth. Approximately 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water. Not only is it abundant, but it is renewable. If we were able to utilize this resource as a source of power, imagine the possibilities. Fortunately, advances in technology have allowed us to partially realize this dream. Creating your own homemade hydrogen fuel generator can allow you to live the dream too.

Hydrogen generators utilize pure water in increasing the efficacy of fuel combustion in automotive engines. Pure water is converted into a gaseous combination of both hydrogen and oxygen. The gases are introduced into the vehicle’s engine, displacing some gas while increasing the efficiency of the remaining fuel being used. This reduces the amount of fuel used while increasing the efficiency of the fuel that is being used. This remarkable technology has many applications. Let’s examine the top 3 benefits of using homemade hydrogen generators.

Benefit No. 1 Accessibility

Pure water is more accessible than hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas has been touted as one of the leading candidates to replace oil in the search for fuel alternatives. However, hydrogen powered cars are still a novelty and until a critical mass of consumers purchase hydrogen-powered cars, refueling your hydrogen tank could be a hassle.

This is in stark contrast to pure water. Tap water can be used in some hydrogen generators. So when the time comes to top up your tank, it can be as simple as turning on your kitchen tap.

Benefit No. 2 Cost

Installing a hydrogen generator is much cheaper than switching to an electric or hydrogen-powered vehicle. The difference in cost can be extremely substantial, especially if you install the hydrogen generator yourself.

There are several companies that can install a hydrogen generator in your vehicle. However, these services are costly and using one can cost you several thousand dollars. Installing a hydrogen generator yourself should only cost several hundred dollars; a cost that can be quickly recouped by your reduced petrol bill.

Benefit No .3 Sustainability

Even though there has been a strong call for alternative forms of energy, oil is a resource that will be used for several years to come. Oil is not being phased out anytime soon, so as long as there’s gas and clean water, you run a minimal risk of your hydrogen generator becoming obsolete.

Even though hydrogen is a primary candidate to supplant gas in the US, there are other alternatives fighting for this coveted position. Scientist and environmentalist have not reached a general consensus when it comes to supporting hydrogen gas as the new fuel of choice.

In the US, some are lobbying for electric cars, while in parts of Asia, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is being examined a potential candidate to replace oil. CNG is mainly comprised of methane.

In the murky and uncertain world of fuel technology, consumers need to wait for the dust to settle before the world can claim a successor to oil. But till then, consider utilizing a homemade hydrogen fuel generator in your car for instant fuel-saving results.

Electricity and Hydrogen Powering Your Automobile

Electricity and Hydrogen Powering Your Automobile

So you’ve finally decided to start taking a look at alternative fuel sources in earnest. You have reviewed the Bio-Fuels currently available, E85, M85, Biodesiel. But you yearn for something with a little more pizzaz and class. You want a car that emmits no CO2′s so what choices are the automotive guys cooking up for your desires.

The current choice of the masses is a completely electric vehicle. This car is powered by onboard batteries that power it up and give it a smooth running effect. You simply plug it up the night before and you are ready for your morning commute. But that commute better be within 50 miles or you will be walking on your way home as the total range of the vehicle is but approximately 100 miles. A pure electric vehicle is still very heavy and not totally efficient at transferring the power that it has on board to the drivetrain.

The automotive manufacturers have acknowledged this fault with electric vehicles and created hybrid electrics. Currently on the market are several vehicles from Honda, and Toyota. While these are great cars they do not possess that pazaazz that most are looking forward to driving around town. Where do you turn.

The next coming fad by many automanufacturers is the Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. This fuel produces the perfect by-product in water with no CO2 to harm the environment. The ultimate vehicle will allow you to store the H2O that you are passing as by-products of the reaction and then apply electrolysis to it to convert it back to Hydrogen and Oxygen. You will simply plug up the vehicle and charge it up. So what is the holdup and why don’t we have this snazzy vehicle currently on the road.

Hold up number one is that Hydrogen is fairly unstable and has to be stored under extreme pressures. This makes a very large concern for the hydrogen vehicle safety. What happens when the tank is penetrated. The gas under extreme pressures will be a major concern. This concern will be for the occupants and the safety crews that have to extricate individuals from these vehicles in the case of a crash.

Secondly it is hottly contested exactly how the automanufacturers plan to use the energy created by a hydrogen power pack. Do you use it as an internal combustion engine replacement or do you use it as an electrical battery replacement. It will be at least five years before we see the first mass produced hydrogen vehicles on the market.

So if you must purchase the latest and snazziest vehicles. Look for a total electric car for your automotive choice. If you are looking for the practical alternative, buy a Hybrid electric and gas automobile.

Though researchers and scientists have proved that water can be used easily to run vehicles and fuel can be done away with, the governments of the nations for their political interests have not made the knowledge known to the general public. The technology has not been lauded and publicized. This is so because the use of water as fuel will adversely affect the oil producing countries.

It is a known fact that the countries that export oil are among the richest and most powerful in the world. It is but natural that world leaders would suppress this knowledge of hydrogen water car how to plans out of fear that the use of water as fuel would reduce the demand for oil and have a negative impact on the oil producing countries. So people are forced to use oil, the prices of which keep increasing at an alarmingly rate.

The government has also turned a blind eye to the disastrous effects the use of oil has on the environment. There has been a tremendous increase in the pollution levels. Hybrid Or Hydrogen Cars ?

Hybrid Or Hydrogen Cars ?

Think about the near future. You lean down down, stick your head beneath your tailpipe and take a good lengthy drink. You may do this with a hydrogen car. These vehicles are not at all in the marketplace up till now. But as people group to purchase hybrid cars, they may wonder if just maybe a better car is coming out. The ideas of that superior car is the hydrogen car. And a few people think hybrid cars simply cannot compare. Below, you will see out a couple of things about hydrogen cars.

Hydrogen cars do not generate energy by burning up anything.
As a substitute of burning up a little bit of fuel, like hybrid cars do, hydrogen cars use up completely nothing. What occurs instead is a chemical reaction. Hydrogen and oxygen get converted into energy and their byproduct is water. Hybrid cars definitely can’t do that. And no one is making an attempt to make hybrid cars do anything like that.

Hydrogen in hydrogen cars provides thrice the power of gasoline .
Not only does hydrogen burn hotter than gasoline, nevertheless it additionally burns more rapidly. Which means hydrogen cars can most likely go driving down the highway at unbelievable speeds. They can probably come to a dead stop and begin proper up to sustain with the traffic in about zero seconds per minute.  Hybrid cars just cannot compete with that form of performance. Hybrid-car batteries definitely don’t give power  sooner than hydrogen.

Some people suppose that hydrogen cars are some kind of hyped-up imagination.
Many people assume that hybrid cars are rather more possible than hydrogen cars. And hybrid cars already cut down emissions from 30 to 50%. So why on the earth would people wish to invest time and money in hydrogen cars?

Hydrogen is a not a gas supply, but is a gasoline service .
That implies that hydrogen needs to be made from different resources. And people are hoping that hydrogen will be capable to be made from things corresponding to wind energy or other forms of renewable sources. Right  at this point, it looks like all we’ve got is natural gas. That is the most effective technique to get hydrogen. And if that’s the case, then there isn’t any need to build hydrogen cars. Hybrid cars already minimize down on how much fuel people use. Who wants hydrogen cars that may end up costing us extra in natural gas?

Will probably be hard to create a lot of stations to fuel hydrogen cars

People are saying there’s an overwhelming quantity of challenges on the subject of creating the multitudes of hydrogen fueling stations that will be needed if hundreds of thousands of people all of a sudden began choosing hydrogen cars. Hybrid cars use gas. And we have already got gasoline stations.

However already president Bush has made it obvious that he wants hydrogen cars to be on the roads  in considerable figures by the year 2020. So it seems that those that oppose hydrogen cars might simply have to carry their breath and see if hydrogen cars truly live up to the lofty guarantees people affiliate with them.  If they don’t live up to their guarantees, people will in all probability begin running back to hybrid cars . And that’s not too bad. Hybrid cars or hydrogen cars, one in all them is going to get us to cleaner air.

The Virtuous Hydrogen Water Fuel

The Virtuous Hydrogen Water Fuel

Today, the world is seeing an explosion in the need for fossil fuels. Some people blame this on the United States and Western Europe, as their industries and automobiles consume vast quantities of oil and gas. Well, that is only partially true. Also today, India and China have booming economies and growing populations.

Where once a car and other creature comforts were only for the rich, both nations also have a burgeoning middle class, and these people want a better life! So, that thus means a need for more fuel. As a result, the price of gas can only go up. Now, granted, it may go through phases where it fluctuates a bit, but the overall trend is constantly up. In the United States, it now stands at over four dollars a gallon, and the economic impact is being felt across the nation. Less driving for summer vacations, higher fuel bills, higher costs of just about everything that is transported by truck and air, and rising airline ticket prices. This has also led to more demand for travel by rail. As Amtrak needs more trains and cars, this will necessitate an investment in infrastructure across the country.

Then, there is also the issue of Global Warming. The use of fossil fuels has resulted in large amounts of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. We are already seeing the results of this with longer hotter summers, more intense hurricanes, shorter winters, and more severe droughts. So, anything we can do to reduce emissions of these gases is a good thing.

Next, there is the issue of terrorism. It is no secret that there are people in this world mainly in the Middle East who are bent on committing terrible acts of terror around the world. The fact that we buy oil from them means that we are providing them with the funds they need to do just that. On the other hand, if we can wean ourselves from oil, and find a viable alternative, we can financial starve them of the funds them need.

Then too is the question of which alternative fuel to use. Some advocate corn or sugar ethanol, as they are renewable bio-fuels. Then there is wind and wave, solar and nuclear, and even geothermal. Yet, when looking for a fuel for vehicles, hydrogen is truly the best way to go. The problem with most bio-fuels is that the food taken away for fuel production could be better used for animal feed or human consumption. Recent corn ethanol production has caused price increases for food and feed. When you consider that fuel prices are also going up, this will only add to the world food problem.

With hydrogen fuel, it has the virtue of not taking resources away from other areas. Also, the only pollution created by such vehicles is pure water! The technology is there; it just needs to be implemented. Also, the fuel components hydrogen and oxygen are as abundant as just about anything on Earth. Now, some people worry about the idea of driving around with pure oxygen and hydrogen in their car. Well, consider this: you drive around with a tank full of gasoline! That is a highly explosive liquid, and has led to countless car fires over the years. Today, with the technology available, a hydrogen car is extremely safe. When you put that together with the savings on fuel bills, the improvements to the environment, and the economic and social benefits to our society as a whole; you’ll see that hydrogen technology is the way to go.

Did you know that
you can convert your car to a water-burning car? You can run your car on water, supplemental to gasoline, to
increase your car’s fuel efficiency and reduce your fuel costs significantl
Works on gas or diesel powered cars, vans, trucks, and SUVs.
