Ford says that this new combination will increase fuel economy by 17% with the base engine and 10% for the other engines, a trend in the right direction for an automaker scrambling to provide a much more fuel efficient fleet of passenger vehicles.

Will the Fusion Hybrid be the death of the Toyota Camry? Not hardly. The Camry remains the best selling car in America with approximately 500,000 units sold in good years.  However, Ford is making a strong case for buyers to consider the Fusion given that the Camry offers just a five-speed automatic transmission and its own hybrid now trails the Fusion in city fuel economy.

For Ford, which is reeling under stiff financial pressure, the new models cannot come soon enough. Perhaps consumers will sit up and take notice that Ford is in the fuel savings game to win.

The car will help you save money at the pump because ethanol and E85 (85 percent ethanol, 15 percent gasoline) are cheaper than the gasoline at the pump right now. The mileage is also better, usually between 10 to 50 percent greater than gasoline vehicles as well.

Hybrid Cars represent the idea behind reducing emissions, concentrating on alternative sources of energy and increasing the fuel efficiency in vehicles. The most common Hybrids these days usually host two types of engines; a gasoline internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. Additionally, these vehicles also host Regenerative Braking Systems that convert kinetic energy produced by braking into electrical energy that is utilized to power the vehicle as well as the on-board electronics.

 

The term Hybrid Vehicle however represents any type of vehicle that is powered by two or more distinct sources.

Hybrid Cars also called HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles) are much better than electric vehicles in terms of performance at higher speeds and power output. Also, two separate engines mean that even if one engine develops a snag, there is always another engine to prevent you from being stranded.

 

Hybrid Vehicles will surely become an established segment in the years to come since there is already a crisis to save the environment from pollution and the natural resources from over-exploitation.

 

Although Hybrid Cars do wonders to the environment and prove fuel efficient too, they are not an easy buy. These vehicles cost a good 40% more than your average car of the same segment.

 

These cars are heavy on maintenance too. Two engines mean more parts that may need servicing and repairing in due course of time. There is a lot of complex machinery used in these cars as well. If there is a replacement part needed for such a vehicle, it costs almost twice as much as a normal auto part does.

 

Although manufacturers might convince you that these vehicles come with warranty for 30,000 miles, this warranty does not necessarily cover any replacement of parts.

 

There is no doubt that with improvements in technology, modern Hybrid Vehicles will continue to evolve. There could be a case wherein Hybrid Vehicles take over other segments in the car market owing to the high demand for fuel efficient and environment friendly vehicles. When used in relation to cars, the term “hybrid” refers to a vehicle that uses both a gas-fueled internal combustion engine propulsion system and an electric one. This combination is intended to improve fuel efficiency, ultimately saving drivers money and reducing emissions. Hybrid heating systems are based on the same concept as hybrid cars. These new heating systems are dual fueled, which usually involve the combination of a gas- or oil-fueled furnace with an electric heat pump.

 

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps represent a significant advancement in home heating and cooling. Depending on the type installed, a heat pump will use 30% to 40% less energy than its traditional counterpart, offering the homeowner a reduced carbon footprint and substantial cost savings. Even greater efficiency can be achieved by geothermal heat pumps, which use heat from the ground or a nearby water source to heat the home.

 

Older types of heating systems usually attempt to heat and re-heat cold air, however, heat pumps simply pull heat into and out of your home, depending on the outdoor temperature and desired indoor temperature. Heat pumps help maintain a more even temperature than older systems, and they also help control indoor humidity, so your family doesn’t have to contend with the effects of dry winter air.

 

At temperatures below 40 degrees, however, heat pumps become less effective and efficient, and this is the point at which the benefits of a hybrid system come into play. When temperatures outside dip below 40 degrees, the system automatically switches into gas- or oil-burning mode. This ensures that your home is kept at a consistently comfortable temperature, and that your system is always operating at its highest efficiency level.

 

Hybrid Systems

One of the most environmentally friendly heating options available to homeowners today and certainly the most efficient, hybrid systems are an important part of the green building movement and are increasingly common in newer homes. Not only do these systems reduce fossil fuel consumption, they can also greatly lower utility bills. And thanks to the electric heat pump component, this innovative type of heating system can even help cool the home in warmer weather.

 

Automatic controls in a hybrid system provide the flexibility to switch between fossil fuel and electric consumption. Under moderate outside temperatures, the control initiates the heat pump outdoors which uses electricity as its energy source; however, when conditions outside are much colder and the use of the heat pump becomes inefficient, the control automatically shuts off the heat pump and starts the furnace inside.

 

While the initial cost of a hybrid heating system may be slightly higher than that of a traditional one (about 0 to ,000 more), the long-term savings will more than make up the difference. Although the total cost savings will depend on the climate and overall efficiency of the system itself, hybrid heating systems can reduce some homeowners’ energy costs by up to 30%.
