Depending on how old you are, you may remember the good old days, when you pulled into a gas station and someone came outside to help you. There you sat, comfortably behind the wheel, while the gas attendant filled your car with gas, (requested by gallons and not dollars), checked your oil, cleaned your windshield and thanked you for your patronage. You never worried about what type of weather it was, because you didn’t have to get out of the car to pump your gas. The attendant did it for you, so your clothes would stay as fresh as they were when you left the house. You could fill up your tank, hand over a ten dollar bill and actually get change back.

Unfortunately for everyone, those days are over. Now you sit in line behind other harried customers at the gas station and have to get out of the car, go inside to pay for the gas if you don’t want to use your credit card, then come back out and pump the gas yourself. Now people no longer say they want ten gallons of gas. That’s been changed to ten dollars worth of gas, if you please, and you clean your own windshields and check your own oil. Hopefully you won’t drip gas on your clothes or stain your hands when checking the oil level in your car.

When SUVs came on the market, it seemed like everyone just had to have one. Thanks to the cool commercials showing drivers zipping through Arctic weather or driving over treacherous terrain, they seemed just too cool to pass up. It became a status symbol to drive one, even though many of those who bought them lived in the suburbs where there was no danger of rough terrains and unpaved roads.

Now that the cost of gas has skyrocketed, many of those same people that drove their SUVs home from the dealership with a huge grin on their face, are now sobbing when its time to go to the gas station. These gas guzzlers now put a huge dent in their paychecks and no longer seem as attractive as they once did.

SUV and truck manufacturers recognized the need to produce vehicles that did not consume so much of the owner’s salary just to fuel it. They have come out with a line of Hybrid SUVs and trucks that are just as attractive as the other models but much more fuel efficient. Ford has presented the Escape Hybrid, Lexus is competing with its RX400 and Toyota has come out with its Highlander Models.

If you still want to drive an SUV, but not worry about the potential of filing for bankruptcy due to expensive fueling, then consider one of the Hybrid SUVs and trucks on the market. Your wallet will thank you.

The environmental movement and the general feeling toward environmental responsibility has been gradually increasing for the past 10 years and has increased dramatically in just that past 4 years. Renewable energy, pollution control, environmental responsibility are all becoming mainstream concepts and goals.

As people become more conscious of the environment and are motivated to save money by using renewable energy by the ailing economy, a new type of lifestyle seems to be emerging; living green. The term “green” is now a mainstream term that indicates environmentally responsible or pollution free, or energy efficient.

Living green or “being green” has become such a high profile issue, that it has actually become a defined lifestyle that for many people living it, feels very good on a number of different levels. Someone who is living green:

Usually spends much less money on utilities, food, and fuel. Being green usually means that one drives a hybrid vehicle, or at least a vehicle that gets superior gas mileage. They don’t spend as much money on gas.

Being green means that one most likely has a renewable energy system in their household such as solar or wind power that saves them an amazing amount of money in electric bills.

Being green feels good because they tend to eat healthier than the average person. Many people living the green lifestyle ear many all natural and organic foods that contain no toxins, preservatives and have little or no saturated fat content. These people are eating significantly healthier than the average person, and in many cases are spending less money on their foods.

The green lifestyle has an emphasis on exercise and outdoor activity. Many people being green have gardens in which they grow their own organic or all natural vegetables to eat. This not only saves money but is a good past time that provides exercise.

In short, being green feels good for health, financial, and social reasons. The green lifestyle is inherently connected to health and well being, so people living green will exercise more and eat healthier. Being green usually means that ones household is as energy efficient as possible, which by definition means that they are saving a ton of money in utility bills.

Being green is a lifestyle choice that has a positive impact on the general environment, which helps give many people a positive sense of purpose that sustains them and gives their lives added meaning. As the economy has grown worse, many people have adopted the green lifestyle out of desperation to save money and to become more efficient.

Many people will pick up the principles of being green for purely financial reasons and will then become enamored with the entire lifestyle and will adopt the idealism of the entire green movement in general. Being green is becoming a powerful force for change in this country, on a social, financial and environmental level. As more and more people adopt the living green lifestyle, the economy and the environment will gradually improve.

What is Â biodiesel ;

Biodiesel is a type of organic fuel which can substitute diesel and provide better fuel properties than diesel itself without modifying the engine. Most commonly a methyl ester, it is derived from vegetable and fruit seeds oil, but not limited to, because Â fish, beef and pork oils can be converted as well. The process of conversion is known as Â transesterification reaction. This fast reaction removes the glycerineÂ from the triglycerides or oil and produces 3 molecules of biodiesel with the same chemical structure and length as diesel ( depending on the type of oil feedstock used ) except it has an oxygen in its molecular structure. This oxygen makes biodiesel a better fuel than diesel. This also made biodiesel more combustible, less soothy and have much higher cetane rating ( octane rating for gasoline ) than diesel ( diesel 44, biodiesel 50 â€“ 70 ). Recycling used cooking oil from restaurants, commissaries and food industries and factories, is also a good source of feedstock for biodiesel. Biodiesel has long been known, in fact longer than diesel itself. Scientists Duffy andÂ Patrick in 1853 discovered the process of making biodiesel. In the Engine ;

How Biodiesel is Made ;

The process of making biodiesel is simple ( Paggawa ng Biodiesel mula sa Gamit o Bagong Mantika, Capistrano, 2008 ). Biodiesel can be made from use or unused cooking oils sourced from plants or animal. Example of these oils are soya, palm, coconut, canola, jatopha, khan grass, pig, chicken, beef or even fish oils. Using proper mix of alcohol and small amount of Â catalyst, dark brown glycerine can easily be seen separating or precipitating from golden yellow biodiesel in just a matter of 18 to 30 minutes depending on the type of oil. There are also visible indicators when reaction is starting and when reaction is over. While auto mixing for instance, gravy brown appearance means the reaction is starting and when the color starts going dark amber brown which can be seen from the transluscent fiberglass, the reaction is almost nearing completion.Â The sweet smell distinct to biodiesel and the accumulation of say 12 % black to dark brown glycerine at the bottom of the cone are indicators of correct reaction. There are however, cautions on the process, like soap formation, gelling, milky appearance and incomplete reactions. There are simple pinpointed solutions to these. How Much Profit Can Biodiesel Bring ;

This means the continued rise in diesel pump price will be incrementing drastically upwards in 2 to 5 years from now. At the bottom row of the picture, the business consuming 5000L diesel before for his fleets of vehicles and equipment upon conversion to biodiesel is gaining profit of P125,000 per day or P3M per 24 days month. This is outstanding and to most unbelievable, as the ROI is less than one day only.

The above biodiesel production are for own usage only. They are using their waste cooking oils as feedstock in making biodiesel. If the resulting biodiesel will be sold to jeepneys for instance at a price of P25 /L, this would mean a profit of P20/L. Producing a daily output of 3000 L would therefore mean a profit of P60,000 per day. Â If this for instance will be sold to minor oil players ( B100 incorporated at 2% to their regular diesel ), who are getting it at a price of P38/L, this would mean a profit of P99,000 per day or equivalent of P1.98M per month. To maximize the profit, B100 at Banawe cost P100 to P140 per L. This can be a level up option.

For bigger biodiesel operation, the cost of feedstock has to be considered. The cost of volume of used oils from quick service restaurants, food commissaries, food factories, instant noodles manufacturers, rendering companies and even electronic companies must be considered likewise in the financial calculation. Every one is talking about renewable sources, privates and governments are taking action to produce renewable energy all over the world.
But what are the most convenient sources?
The best and more convenient among the others are solar and wind power.
